Last Conference of 2012: Berlin

It’s been a busy year and we just wrapped up conference “season” with this conference in Berlin. I still find it challenging trying to figure out how to present my work at conferences in an interesting and engaging way. With teaching, at least you have a semester to develop repoire with your students.

And after a while, students come to expect you to be a certain way… quirky and weird… caffeinated… strict and no nonsense… all of the above. With a conference, you have one shot to present.

Along with some colleagues at my institution, we organized a stream of papers on language change in Central Asia and thankfully, we received some attention and interest since it is an under-represented area at language and education conferences. Hopefully, it’ll lead to some productive output. But overall, it was a productive conference AND we even managed to get in some of Berlin’s sights! (All work and no play… :))
