From the plane

Unfortunately, because the trip was work-related and so short, I didn’t actually get to see the city at all. However, my hosts did take me to an interesting rug/sumac seller, who had a separate storage place in a very nondescript closet-like room looking building.

These pictures can’t really do these rugs justice. I had no idea that rugs could be so beautifully crafted. These (if I remember correctly) were hand knotted from Afghanistan and would change color depending on where you were standing. Because he knows the different craftspeople personally, the stories behind the rugs were fascinating and all the more enriching.
