This weekend in Almaty: Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States

The first summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States was held in Almaty this past weekend and was celebrated with big bill boards and flags lining the street in front of the presidential palace and around Republican Square. For an interesting article on how the council developed, check out this one in Today’s Zaman

For now, some pictures.

Streets lined with the flags for Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Name these flags. 🙂

The development of a stronger economic Turkic bloc would be an interesting development in the geo-politics of this region – I guess we’ll have to watch and see.
